  Start under the obvious low roof on right side of chimney. Over it and up to the top. 

  Variation (5.9): Start about eight feet down the slope below right (sitting?) under an overhang under the crack for the route Monkey Zag. Diagonal up left to get under the roof.

Dramatic roof turns out to be not as hard as it looks -- with some creative moves required. 

  Slab to a pillar, then take the obvious wide crack (Every which way) through the roof. Rewarded by some thoughtful slopers in the corner to the top. 

  Originally climbed as boulder problem (with a scary landing).   . . (? the 2011 print guidebook suggests that there might be a V7 / 5.13 variation ? "Deez Titanium Ballz" ?).

Variety of interesting moves (but the crux is significantly harder than the rest). 

  Start with feet in the right of the pair of cracks, and up that (without using holds on the right side of the crack, because they're for the route Dragon's Butt). Aim toward the right side of mature tree, up past a horizontal crack leading right, later exit from the crack going up right (without any positive holds) to the crest of the ridge. 

  Next trend leftward to get up onto a small boulder to the right side of the big low roof. Then step Left up across to the rock above the roof (more interesting and difficult if do this more toward left), then flaky arete to its top.

Interesting moves, but the crux traverse is way harder than the rest. 

  Start (sitting?) under low overhang under the vertical crack.   Over the hang and grab the crack. Next work up to fingers in horizontal about three feet below the top. Traverse left almost to the corner, then up.

Up to around the right end of the big low roof -- onto a small boulder. Getting to the top of the roof without going up through its middle. Thoughtful sequence, but moves not as much fun as some other routes nearby. 

  Start left of the crack, uphill where the big roof is closer to the ground. Get above the roof. Step right to the crack. Up a little then exit right to the rounded corner.

A large mature tree with some rocks and boulders around it. The obvious loose boulder to the left is called the Left Flat Iron. To the left of that is the El Cap cliff sector. High above is the Monkey Boat boulder, and above around that is the Monkey Bar sector. The ridge to its right is the left side of the Dragon sector. 

  The big Giving Tree's "own" cliff sector is centered on the big roof above, seen between the Monkey Boat boulder and ridge of the Dragon's Spine. 

  Variety of slab, face, and roof climbs. Key drawback is that the base is rather steep and slippery. 

Top-Roping: The obvious way to get access to the top to make an anchor is to scramble up to the Monkey Bar boulder, then up around the left (west) end of the Monkey Bar wall. Then east across the top of Monkey Bar, finally down to the top of Giving Tree. 

  But perhaps easier to start way right (east), even past the whole Dragon slab, then scramble up around the left side of the Beard boulder, then across the top of The Nose and Dragon sectors, finally down to the top of Giving Tree sector. 

  If belaying from the bottom, makes sense to find and use a less-steep platform well below the start of the actual climbing route.
