The rightmost portion of The Wall (where

Chalk Up Another One

is located) is split into two by a steep chimney system.

Tackle the obvious chimney, which is wide enough to allow upward progress but not so narrow as to make it overly difficult. Protection is found near the back of the crack, so if placing gear take some runners to keep the rope drag in check.

This is a good introductory style chimney to get comfortable on wider cracks as it affords good protection and elementary wide crack skills. The descent is found about 100' to the right of this climb and involves downclimbing and tunneling under some blocks.

Scramble up blocks to the base of this climb which starts above a deep chasm. Clip a bolt (3/8"), then make a tough move and proceed upward past another bolt (1/4") which leads into a shallow crack/seam with somewhat scarce protection. The crack/seam dies out and somewhat exciting moves lead to a final bolt (1/4") and the top.

The belay on top is somewhat difficult to arrange, and it's best to go WAY back and down the backside to a corner system. A walk off exists to the climber's right.

A good route that really needs the bolts replaced to make it a bit safer.

Steep slab climbing on polished, slippery smears past five bolts lead into a flariy groove/crack.

Gear belay and descend along the right margin of the wall. A little bit of chimney/tunnel action and some down climbing will land you back at your pack in a matter of minutes.

Climb a ways up to the first bolt (1/2"), do the crux and then wander upwards on steep slab past three more bolts to the top.

Gear belay and scramble/down-climb off to the climber's right (fastest being along the margin of the wall just right of this climb).

A worthwhile and fun route worth doing while in the area which is not nearly as greasy as it's neighbor to the left.

In a very rare and commendable move Alan replaced the bolts on this and all the other routes he put up in Joshua Tree; if more people took the time and effort to replace the old bolts on their routes places like Josh would be even nicer and certainly much safer - thanks a ton Alan!
